What is the Opportunity?

The D. E. Shaw group seeks motivated, intellectually curious students to join one of their strategy and business development (SBD) groups during their summer internship program. Throughout the internship, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with an inclusive and collegial team on challenging, impactful projects that are core to the firm’s internal and external development.

  • D.E. Shaw seeks individuals who excel at taking a structured and detailed approach to solving problems, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), take initiative, can drive projects forward, and thrive on collaboration.
  • No previous finance experience is necessary.

What are the roles and responsibilities?

You’ll take on projects that require rigorous analytical thinking and creative problem solving. You might assess which markets of D.E. Shaw's trading strategies should expand into; help create digital, video, and print content that strengthens the firm’s position in the industry; enhance their marketing strategy and thought leadership; or participate in internal consulting work, such as researching where to open a new office or estimating our carbon footprint.

Additional Info:

  • This is a ten-week program that will take place in New York and is expected to run from June to August 2025.
  • The expected monthly base salary for this position is $10,000. Our compensation package includes travel to and from the internship, overtime for all hours worked over 40 per week, a sign-on bonus, and choice of corporate housing or a summer housing allowance.
